About
Welcome! My name is Zachary Stevenson, I formed Dyslexic Designs in 2010 as my personal professional design identity. The basic idea behind Dyslexic Designs is simple, it can be described as any design executed by a designer who has been diagnosed with Dyslexia. Most importantly, I’m interested in the visual processing aspects of the disorder. Please, allow me to explain the thought process behind this identity.
When I was young, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, a chronic neurological disorder causing inability or great difficulty in learning to read or spell, despite normal intelligence. People often describe the symptoms of Dyslexia as having inhibited recognition and processing of graphic symbols, particularly those pertaining to language. Since my early diagnosis, I have always wondered how the disorder would affect me.
At the time of my diagnosis, I had a couple of the well known symptoms that are common for someone with Dyslexia. Specifically, I remember having a hard time with writing and spelling which made school difficult. With that being said, I was able to work on my weaknesses and drastically improve on my learning comprehension. During this time, I was happy to be doing well in school but continued to wonder what Dyslexia meant for me. Soon after that, it was as if I had never been diagnosed with the disorder, except in my mind.
To this day, I still think about being diagnosed with Dyslexia when I was young. Early on, the disorder inspired me to make key improvements around learning comprehension. I have embraced the idea that my visual thought process could be different or abnormal. This idea has inspired me to continue to enhance my visual thought process and hopefully produce some smart Graphic Design. I’m interested in all things related to Graphic Design but mostly, I’m interested in Digital Graphics, Typography and Illustration.
Dyslexic Designs stands for Creativity, Visualization, Simplicity, Harmony, Inner Strength and Passion.
